15 year after its original construction, Chaffers New World received its first major make over. This included extending the supermar kets floor plate by pushing the external facades out on two sides. These facades received a revised architectural treatment that was inspired by the neighbouring Waitangi Park. Work was completed in a live operational environment whilst the supermarket continued to trade. This posed various challenges, as it is currently one of the busiest super markets in the region with approximately 55,000 shoppers passing through the entrance each week.
